conversion of wmv & mjpeg to dv-avi

Postby Barb O » Sun Mar 21, 2010 2:43 pm

1 -- With Windows 7 my understanding is that the only choice for Windows Movie Maker is the Windows Live download variation.

2 -- I think that this Windows Live download variation does not support saving/output as DV-AVI format.

An Adobe Premiere Elements forum FAQ (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0) describes using Windows Movie Maker for converting still camera video and I have done this using MJPEG videos from a Canon still camera. It also handles WMV video (of course since wmv is a MS construct) for conversion to DV-AVI.

What is a good alternate conversion tool for WMV to DV-AVI ? for MJPEG to DV-AVI ?

The Vista 'Windows Movie Maker 2.6' works fine in Windows 7 (incl. 64 bit) and includes export to DV-AVI.

Thanks, Neale. I'm glad to hear this.

And I'm shocked (well, frustrated) to see Live MovieMaker doesn't have this function.

Meantime, I've updated the FAQ on the Adobe forum and we'll be posting an updated version of my Steve's Tips article on converting video soon.

For the record the best alternative I've found to MovieMaker for converting MJPEG-AVIs (video from still cameras) to DV-AVIs is MPEG Streamclip, using the specs in the article and FAQ.

Steve,

right now my specific need is a wmv to DV- AVI recommendation - but I don't know the version of Windows yet for the person with the problem.

You can find my Steve's Tips article here:
http://muvipix.com/products.php?searchp ... =0&btn.y=0

I've just updated it, though, and Ron should have the revised one up soon.

So, if the information you're looking for isn't there (ie, how to use Super to convert a WMV to a DV-AVI), you'll also find it in my FAQ at the Adobe forum.
