I switched from Pinnacle to Premiere Elements because I couldn't get Pinnacle to run with stability on the computer I was using at the time.

It turned out that the setup was not powerful enough to properly run video editing software, a fact I learned when I turned to the Adobe forum and then here. Because of the the support at Muvipix, I decided to stick with Pre El. I think that most people who start out wanting to edit video have no idea what setup is necessary to edit video.

I will l continue to use version 3.02 on XP MCE until Windows 8 (or 9 or 10) and Pre El 9 (or 10, or 11) have additional, stable features that make me say, "I want that!"

OK, got my package today, installed the software and am already frustrated :pull:
It want let me import my video files captured with PE7 (HD 1440x1080i). I can open/import those files with MEP15 without a problem. What's up with that?
I send a note to customer support, but haven't heard back yet.

What version of Pinnacle Studio do you have? Have you updated to version 12.1?

I don't have a Canon HDV camcorder, but I can create HDV 1440x1080i (.m2t) in Premiere Elements 8 and that loads into Studio Plus 12.1.

AVCHD from Sony and Panasonic camcorders also load into Studio Plus 12.1.

Yes it is version 12.1. I think the problem is with the files that PE is creating. The PE captured files have the .mpeg extension. When I run those through GSpot it only lists the Container: File Type MPEG-2 Transport Stream, Mime Type: video/mp2t. That is all, no details about the codec or anything else.

I connected my HV30 and captured a short clip with Pinnacle. This file is saved with the .m2v extension and GSpot lists now every little detail about the file.

I imported this file also into PE7 without any problem, no red line over the time line either.

In other words I need to export the PE captured files in a different file format or use an other program to convert. I have also a file that was exported from PE and has the extension .m2t which Pinnacle imports with no problem.

Bummer ](*,) I guess I have to use Pinnacle to capture in the future.

This might help (free! :-D ) if you decide to go the conversion route. I use it regularly when I need a file conversion. There is also another converter that has been mentioned on Muvipix but I can't recollect the name of it just now.

I have spend now a little time with Studio 12 and I must say, I really start to like the program a lot. I haven't done anything complicated, but I was able to capture from my Canon HV30 in HD and I did some editing and also exported in different file formats. No crashes :TU:
There are quite a few video tutorials on the Pinnacle website to get you started with all the many things available in the program.
I was really surprised and impressed with the manual that comes with the program on the installation disc. 400+ pages of explanations of all the tools and very detailed instructions on how to use them, even basic editing procedures like L- and J-cuts and tips on how to make a movie.

Here is the link to the online version of the manual, it will tell you everything and anything you might want to know about the program:

I haven't had any crashes with 12.1 either.

Do you have Prodad Mercalli image stabilizer for Premiere Elements?

I only have the image stabilizer that comes with PE7. I used to have SteadyMove with PE3.

Doesn't SteadyMove work with PE7? (sorry, I don't have PE7 so I can't check it. I know that it no longer works with PPro CS4 but it does with AE.

You can activate the PRODAD Mercalli stabilizer for Pinnacle Studio for $29.99 USD through Pinnacle. That will get you the standard edition. After I had purchased that, it dawned on me that the Premiere Elements version might also work in Studio, so I gave that a try by installing it again. That upgraded Mercalli for Studio from standard edition to the Pro edition.

I was wondering if I wasted $29.99.

John, I'm not saying SteadyMove is not working with PE7. I have never tried to install it with PE7. I simply had no need for it so far, the HV30 has a build-in stabilizer which works great for me. I'm not sure though, if it would work with Windows 7.

Robert, I'm not sure what you are asking me. I don't have the PRODAD Mercalli stabilizer for PE? :?:
