Sony Vegas: How to handle multiple sound tracks ?

Postby ryan_khoo » Mon Sep 29, 2008 1:55 am

Hi guys,

I import in a segment of video which has videos and sound.

I then add a background music by putting the music in a separate sound track.

The problem is that:

a) at a certain section, I want to increase to background music to the video sound the video sound

b) at a certain section, I want to increase the video sound to be louder than the background music.

c) at a certain section, I want the background music to be totally off

d) at a certain section, I want the video sound to be totally off

I know I can do it by making many many splits at the section where I want the changes to be but this is to cumbersome. Can I some how adjust and a make a sound envelope where the level of loudness can go up and down. At the moment, I notice the sound level in the sound track is only one straight horizontal line where I can increase or increase but ONLY at ONE level (it always show a straight line, meaning I can only push the straight line up or down. The line always remain horizontally straight. I need the line to be curving up and curving down)

Any ideas how I can go around this problem ?

Thanks

Hi Ryan, click on your audio then go Insert>Audio Envelope>Volume you can then double click on the line that appears to set keyframes which you can drag up and down to control the volume.

Hi Paul,

Hope you don't mind me asking a simple question. I have accidentally press "S" and split the sound into two parts. I cannot undo it. How do I join them back ?

Thanks

If you can not use the undo button then delete one half of the clip. Then gently drag the end of the remaining half to replace the deleted section. It will pause once the half of clip has been replaced, if you keep on dragging it will repeat the clip.

Hi guys,

I have a song about 5 mins which I placed it on the audio track. Because it is too long & I do not need the whole song, I select section of the song. It fact I made 2 cuts of the song and it become a 2 mins song (ie I cut at 2nd min and another cut at 4th min). At times as I was editing, I always accidentally drag the front (and sometimes back) of the audio and I gotta drag it back to its original condition. This can be quite irritating and time wasting.

How can I lock the cut-out segment of the audio so that it won't get dragged and the song will always remained be from the 2nd min to 4th min ?

Thanks

I wish there was an easy solution to that one, Ryan. But, if there is, I haven't found it yet. (Short of opening the song in an audio editor, like Audacity, and creating a shortened version of the song there.)

I usually end up just expecting things are going to move around until I get my video file or I slide the song way down the timeline and out of my way until I'm ready for it.

"Right click, Properties, Lock" if you are refering to Sony Vegas.

Hi Paul,

This is great. I could have save so much unproductive hours if I knew this early. But I suppose, it is better late than never. :-D

I suppose this "Propeties > Lock" method also work on cut video clips, right ?

Thanks again

Hi Ryan, re-reading your post I am not sure that "Lock" does what you want it to. What "Lock" does is lock the clip on the track... so you can not make any changes to it or move it. You can not lock the length of the clip and also move it around, you would need to unlock it and then move it and re-lock it. And yes Lock also applies to video.

Thanks Paul, at least it is better than readjusting the start and end part of the songs. I will try to remember that.
