Cinelerra

Postby Francesco Carzedda » Tue Apr 08, 2014 2:09 pm

Ciao a tutti,

Due to the stop to the updates of Windows Xp I became an Ubuntu boy  and I am very happy with my new operating system
:exc:

I kept a partition with my Windows Xp (not connected to Internet) and I still have my faithful VideoPad editor and ProShow Gold.

I started studying Cinelerra and let's see what comes out: I didn't manage to install the 4.5 version yet (perhaps I have to wait for the latest version of Ubuntu) and I am running 2.2 .

Lot of homework :conf:

Please think at a lonely Italian man dealing with a software that few use.

Have a nice evening

Wow, Francesco, I was planing to do the same thing! I have a 10 year old Sony Vaio desktop with Windows XP. I can't just let go of it, it has so much stuff on it and my grandkids like to use it when they come to visit.
Did you have to reinstall Windows and all your programs on the partition or is there a way to avoid that?

Ciao Gerlinde,

yes I did, I have two partitions (two personal computers in my user's view :-) .
It is absolutely necessary.

The partition with Xp works disconnected, apart from the moment you have to reinstall your software for Windows (in my case: ProShow Gold, VideoPad Editor and FormatFactory, but for converting format WinFF is good too, not as FormatFactory perhaps but compression is higher).

Then you can consider which software migrate to Ubuntu: I make run on the new operating system Gimp and Filezilla.

For the Internet connection Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird (e-mail) are great, LibreOffice is equal to OpenOffice for Windows and as good as Microsoft Office.

Keep in touch, I hope I'll be helpful

Thank you, Francesco. If I have to re-install Windows I have a problem. That computer came with Windows installed and I don't have a physical disc. I think there is a hidden partition to restore to factory, but that would be lost too.
This will require some more thinking, but I love a good challenge. :-D

Gerlinde,

no problem, your pc has a Windows Xp code on the case and you're ok to install a copy of Windows Xp.

Rely on your technician, just call him and bring him the case, he will be able to do all.
Every copy of Windows Xp is licensed on your pc (you won't just be able to choose between 32 and 64 bit version).
