Windows Movie Maker alternative

Postby GerryB » Thu Aug 24, 2017 4:58 am

Good morning to you all.

Not being a Win10 user (I didn't have Win8 either) I was not aware that Windows Movie Maker (Live) is no longer available.

A decision has been made to try and encourage referees to take their match videos and cut clips of moments/incidents in their game and pass around their colleague to seek opinion. All part of the self-learning approach to development.

My recommendation for the software was iMovie or WMM. Oh dear!!!

Does anyone have an alternative suggestion for free software for WMM (yes, it must be free) that will take in video (.mov .wmv .mp4) files and output .mp4 coded files as a minimum?

If they (referees) want to upgrade then I will be recommending Adobe Premier Elements, it has been good and stable over the years! It comes with an associated recommendation to that well known book.... The Muvipix.com Guide to.......

Many thanks in advance,

Gerry

There are quite a few options available at the Microsoft Store. You can check reviews and features of each. Wish I had experience with a free version but I don't. Hopefully someone will have experience with something.

There are even more options for cell phones and tablets, even Adobe has a free app for video editing. It might help to know what all of them are using to record the matches. Is everyone using the same equipment by chance?

Hi Chuck,

If only.....

The videos will be coming from the home team and what device, camera, phone, tablet, is an unknown!!
The format is unknown!!
I'm not organising that side of things, there are others who think they are Cecil B DeMille and know best.

I had thought about the Adobe app but then not everyone has an iPad or tablet, so I defaulted to iMovie or WMM - that was.

Something with look & feel of WMM will do to get the ball rolling if you excuse the pun!

Best wishes,

Gerry

I think you will have some decent luck with the GoPro Studio editing app for windows or Mac. It is free and pretty simple to use. They also have the free program called quick which is supposed to do an auto edit. Not sure how it works but might be worth a try.

Sid,

The GoPro Quick looked interesting but it is free for 7 days!!
You only discover that when you go through the signup process.

Sorry to hear that... all these companies only want to rent.... I dislike the rent method.

But GoPro studio editing app is free. I have used it and it is a pretty simplistic editing program.
