I don't think I've ever even heard of Vanns.com

I'd put NewEgg and Amazon at the top of my list. But, yeah -- who is Vanns?

I actually bought our big screen TV from Vanns. Their price was still down while most of the others had started back up...and shipping was free. Lately, though, it seems the price differential hasn't been significant so when we bought a new TV for our bedroom I got it locally.

With regard to the low ranking of Fry's, I must say there is HUGE variability from store to store.

The Manhattan Beach store, although small, has competent service personnel who are experienced.

The Burbank store is very impersonal, and the service department charged me well over $300 to upgrade the hardware on my 4 PCs--none of which worked when I got them home (they had installed the RAM incorrectly).

The City of Industry location seems to have it all: a VERY competent service department and very friendly sales people, all of whom work in a very comfortable and brightly-lit environment. This store is HUGE.

What makes Fry's special for me is the Performance Guarantee: if your purchase should fail at any time during the period of the guarantee, and they can't fix it within 24 hours, they give you a "loaner" of a quality equal to the machine that you've left for repair--and the loaner may very well be new-in-the-box. You keep the loaner until your own machine is ready for pick up.

I have been using Vanns for several years now. I Got my min iDV vcamcorder and Digital camera from them. They gve the best price (during a sale) and oferedfree shipping and no interest no payments for 6 months if I used their credit card. I have been very happy with them.
