LIQUID COOLING

Postby hpharley90 » Tue Oct 06, 2009 4:00 pm

Mr. TwoSheds got me thinking after I was reading his thread "Lets cool it ".
I've been looking at (attached picture) this Tower for a couple of weeks now about buying it.I see that it has liquid cooling available.
What does anyone think about this?

Unnecessary. Hassle. Expensive.

If you're concerned about heat you can get a nice cpu fan for like $50 to $80, and that is if you plan on overclocking.

The people I know who do water cooling do it for the hobby aspect of it - not for lower temps or overclocking.

I wonder if it would be quieter?
What happens if the liquid cooling stops working, is there a backup of some kind to keep the system cool?
At least if one of my fans quits there are others that will keep working.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

The question is how would it be quieter? The liquid is cooled by fans. The setups I've seen usually have several small fans. When compared to the single 120mm fan on my CPU, it just doesn't seem liquid cooling could be very quiet. The loudest sound from my computer is the cheap PSU I have in it. The thing is loud, and if I had any sense about me, I would replace it.

I will not be overclocking. I was just wondering about the liquid cooling.

I saw this just now which would of answered my question also

Tiny - I've got a corsair VX450 PSU currently. Very quiet - and not too pricey.

I'd be concerned about leaks. :-D

Have added to my original thread to show base system temps when system running with no load. Based on my (albeit limited) experience, a case designed for an efficient airflow solved my problem. :-D

Very nice. Much better design than mine. Mine has like an 80mm in the rear, where it appears that yours just has a single 120mm on top?

Unfortunately, I can't justify replacing mine any time soon. It is loud, but it works, and that $75 will be better spent on things like memory cards for my latest toy. (Sold my Cannon HV20 and some other things, will likely be buying the Pentax K-x which shoots 24fps at 720p and has other impressive features for $650 - Mainly just want the DOF capabilities.)

Thanks for your thoughts on the cooling. :-D :-D

This one is an $99.00 dollar add on.
Fans will be more than adequate as you all know.
Thanks
Richard

Just to cap off this thread, liquid cooling is only necessary (or even useful) if you're doing extreme overclocking. For anything else, it's a waste of money.

I agree with Jack - not worth the bother vs. risk.
