Golden Hour

Postby sidd finch » Thu Sep 10, 2009 1:44 pm

Found this cool article from Videomaker:

http://www.amandaemily.com/photo/sun.php

From Wikipedia:
In photography, the golden hour (sometimes known as magic hour, especially in cinematography) is the first and last hour of sunlight during the day, when a specific photographic effect is achieved with the quality of the light.

Typically, lighting is softer (more diffuse) and warmer in hue, and shadows are longer. When the Sun is near the horizon, sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere, reducing its intensity, so that more of the illumination comes from the sky. More blue light is scattered, so that light from the Sun appears more reddish. And the Sun's small angle with the horizon produces longer shadows. The character of the lighting is determined by the Sun's altitude, and the time for the Sun to move from the horizon to a specified altitude depends on a location's latitude and the time of year

The web page will attempt to determine your location via your IP address in order to calculate the table.

Very cool - and soooo true. I do a lot of video and some photography on Tuesday Evenings during the Spring and Summer when we have evening sailboat racing, and the results can be just gorgious.

Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw your post and checked out the site. It was a nice evening here in the UK so I decided to go out and see what I could capture during the golden hour. I just caught the best sunset of my life so far thanks to your suggestion. Just amazing. I will see how the footage turned out and if its good enough post something here.

Thanks a million for posting. ::CLAP:

My Golden Hour video

Postby Shrimpfarmer » Fri Sep 11, 2009 7:56 pm

This is what I experienced this evening. Youtube does not begin to do it justice. I need to explore better ways to share.

Thanks for the nice comments. The song is Ain't no love, by David Gray from his album Slow Motion.

Get up to DC Chuck. I'd love to post some video of you in a grass skirt: same for anyone on the board. My siblings think I'm half crazy, so I've been making these PSA's to amuse them. I'm going to enlist my neighbors help for the third and final PSA.

First of all ed, you do not look a day over 49 you carry your youth well.

I like your golden hour video. Will you be using your Obama figurine to make a golden hour party highlight reel? :)

Thanks Sidd! I don't feel a day over 49

The Oboma action figure will not make an appearence in defference to my Democratic parents and most of my siblings. They don't find that amusing. I have talked my neighbor Dave into performing in the 3rd and final PSA though. He'll be doing shaker and kazoo for the musical number. If it works out well I may talk him into performing with me at the next Artscape
