Software for business

Postby Dave McElderry » Tue Jul 14, 2009 5:35 pm

This is really off topic for this video site, but it seems that there is a wealth of knowledge in this group, so here goes...

My brother is in the HVAC business. He was telling me that it would be great if he had a program on a laptop that he could use for quickly creating quotes. What he would like to be able to do is to to select items from list "A" and have them added to list "B", which would automatically give a running price total. When everything that he needs is in list "B" all he has to do is print, or whatever he wants to do with it.

I know this could be done with an Excel spreadsheet, but I'm sure there are programs already set up to do this sort of thing without reinventing the wheel. Anybody have experience with software of this nature?

Bah, you negated what my answer was going to be. So now I will just go ahead and defend it.

Something like this sounds like a simple function in excel using two different lists and some if statements . . . . If someone built a piece of software that does this and is making money off of it, more power to them.

That would be fairly easy to program as a mobile app. Maybe I'll do an iPhone app :)

I didn't even notice that it was a first post Tiny. I thought it was a regular with tongue in cheek. Something a little odd here.

I know most of these spammers are in foreign countries and probably aren't proficient in English, but seriously, do they just have a random bucket of words that they reach into when they compose their posts? Is anyone really going to buy something from someone who can't write a coherent sentence?

Some of the spammers today are just concerned with getting people to click on a link.
They get paid per click, not by selling anything. So if they can get a few thousand people a day to click on a link they will do pretty well.
