WinDV for capturing - no audio on preview?

Postby Peru » Sat Mar 29, 2008 7:31 am

I've tried WinDV (found it recommended in another post on these forums) to capture some video using a vcr/dvd player through a Canopus device to firewire.

The captures were fine, but when capturing, no audio plays on the preview window in WinDV.
Is this how WinDV works, or am I doing something wrong? :-k

No audio during preview. There may be a setting to change it to preview audio but I haven't found it. Havent dug too deep... not that there is much to dig into. :)

You are right, no audio while capturing. Apparently the author didn't want to be bothered with all that noise. I have captured clips that had bad audio and had to recapture, so I may check with another app. DVIO is very simple and also free.

A more elaborate capture util is CaptureFlux by Paul Glagla, author of DVdate and Filmerit among others. It is interesting to note that this app may allow capuring analog video to DV-AVI format - haven't tried it but he has recently added support for Dazzle devices.

The later versions of VirtualDub also support DV capture.

Thanks Ken and Paul.
I guess I'll stick with Pre El 3 for capturing.
