OK, this question will probably show my stupidity --- I would rather think of it as a hopeful question in the area of - you never know what you don't know...
Can the HD background be used in non HD projects? (I'm still using PE3)
They are so good, I didn't want to pass them up unnecessarily.

Yes you can, but you will need to scale them down a bit.
