Video On My Webpage

Postby Bobby » Mon Mar 17, 2008 1:43 pm

I want to put some video on my webpage. I don't want to use a public forum as these are family videos and should not be public. Most of the videos are widescreen format.

Is the best choice to generate .flv files and embed an flv viewer in the webpage? If so, can someobdy point me towards an available unlabeled viewer (i.e. not with somebody's advertisement on it) and some sample Javascript to embed and start the viewer?

Thanks much!

Bob, don't forget that the Muvipix Gallery allows for Private Albums that have a password.
The FLV viewer is already set up to work with FLV files uploaded to any album.
Other forum members are taking advantage of the free private galleries here.

Thanks Ron. Let me follow up on the links from sbfowler (Thank You too!) that looks like they have what I need - even generate the JavaScript for you!

Thanks Chuck. Let me poll the family. Really, it's not like I am trying to hide anything! But I have found that the family sometimes tends to act like an ant colony - there is much non-verbal communication and it isn't intuitively obvious how decisions are made. They may react negatively just thinking it MIGHT be on a public website.

On the other hand, my website is NOT private, so that might be a good idea. Needs some thought...

OK - that works. Now, the next question:

Recommendations, please for frame width / height in pixels and the frame rate and bitrate? Obviously files can get very big quickly, and processing time increases. What is "good"?

Thanks, Bob

Hi:
I know you are not sure about putting it on a public site but I upload my video to filefront. It has a greater capacity for files. Then I take the code and put it on my Myspace page (geek that I am :)) so that my friends can see the video. Just another thought for you : =P~
