Re: Great Deal on a Dell - One Day OnlyAdd $60 for a decent/separate Video Card and $25 for good audio and you have a great machine for still under $600.
Might want to add another hard drive but with 500gb you might not need to for awhile Great deal Jack, thanks for sharing 1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

Re: Great Deal on a Dell - One Day OnlyLooking at the Dell configurator for today's Inspiron 530 desktop: Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz with 3GB RAM & 500GB HDD for $499 running Windows XP
the choice of graphics cards are: nVidia GeForce 8300GS 128MB [add $60] nVidia GeForce 8600GT-DDR3 256MB [add $150] ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB [add $60] Dell recommended and includes Blue-Ray support Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT 256MB [add $150] For the $60 choice, which is better the nVidia 8300GS or the Radeon ATI HD 2400 ? Are the more expensive video cards listed overkill for the other specs of this machine ? I would rather purchase the video card initially so that it comes already installed. I would probably also choose IEEE 1394a Adapter [add $30] FYI - The configurator did not give me the option of adding a separate sound card.
Re: Great Deal on a Dell - One Day OnlyBarb,
Adding cards afterward is about as easy as it gets, and usually cheaper than buying it with the PC. Check Newegg for price comparisons. I'm not up on the specifics of either of those graphics cards, but I've always been a fan of ATI, and their implementation of OpenGL is more compatible with Premiere. Also, bear in mind that Premiere is CPU-dependent, so the graphics card is not as important unless you plan to use it for gaming or some other app that needs a high-powered GPU. For the sound card, you really don't need one for video editing; the onboard sound is perfectly adequate. I'd only worry about it if you intend to use the PC as a home theater hub or for pro audio applications. I'm AMAZED how much the prices have dropped on computers!! When I bought my core 2, 2.6 under a year ago, I paid MUCH more than $499....(Kinda like "ouch!!" ) That's OK...my wife wants a new laptop in the next couple months, so she'll be able to get a screamin' fast one at a "non ouch" price
