Here's a great discussion of the five films that were nominated for Best Editing Oscars and why they were worthy of their nomination.

Beautiful examples of how great editing works too.

Thanks Steve for the link. Very informative. I think that you said in your book or in Steve's tips that "editing starts before you take the camera out of the bag." Have said that to myself and family several times. Think my youngest is getting the video bug. She did a group video project and can hear her on tape directing what shots she wanted...angle shots, sky, empty hallway, no firehosing, etc. Have you to thank! Keep the tips coming!

I've noticed my daughter, too, when making videos directing shots, even when she's in them. Must have picked up the habit from me.

But a funny thing: My uncle (who's about to turn 90) sent me some old 8mm home movies he shot in the 1960s that he recently had dubbed to video. Although there is no sound, I noticed that, in every shot he's in, his lips are moving. I later figured out that he's doing it too -- directing even when he's on camera.

I must have picked up the habit from him!

Steve, yes it must be in the genes! Family footage from the 60's? How wonderful!
