Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANI will be interested to hear the views of anyone that tries this software out.

Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANSo I had a go with it. The CPU only version is easier to install but I don't think it's tuned as well yet. There's lots of messing around installing various pieces of software and using the command line. I also have trouble getting it to work on the background image. However I tried taking Steve's Avatar (apologies Steve...) which is a whole 100x84 pixels.
Giving it to the software produces this before and after: Making the image black and white first - so the software has to "guess" the colour give this sightly disturbing attempt: Given the lack of detail in the original it is impressive. Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANStill, considering how low rez the photo was you started with, not terrible.

Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANAnd then I remembered the "then and now" thread....
Taking Chuck's first picture - it does a good job on the faces - but you see what I mean about the background being unrestored. This is the before/after on Chuck's face. Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANWow, that's amazing ! Thanks Chris
There must be a way to have the program do the same with the background.... This was so fun to see, really appreciate that you found and used this photo. 1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANThe background thing is frustrating - it seems to go through the motions of processing it then just doesn't seem to have anything to show for it. I'll keep trying and let you know if I make any progress.
Provided it's just a few - If anyone else wants me to run their photos through just let me know. Intel Core i7 8700 - 32GB DDR4 - 500GB Evo 970 SSD - 3+2 TB HDD - GTX 1080- MSI Z370 Pro - Win10 64 bit - Cannon HV30 (PAL) - Sony A6000 - GoPro 3 Black
Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANAfter re-reading the 1st post, it would appear that this software is really for faces, not backgrounds. That seems reasonable as faces are usually the most important part of a photo anyway.
Re: Photo Restoration Software GFP-GANWow, cool application and examples. If this is primarily for faces you could mask out and use the face as its own layer in photoshop. Restore the remainder of the photo with PS tools.
