I hope I can explain this correctly ...
I'm looking for a camera effect that looks like the iris opening and closing. I saw the flash effect and that's nice. The one I'm trying to use looks like 8 or so panels that when you take the picture the close in a circle and the panels overlap, then they open again. (that will be when the still picture is displayed.)
The iPhone camera uses this effect and I though it would be nice in a video. There is also a shutter sound, but I know that's out there already.

I wonder if you could make a gradient wipe that would work?

I googled 'camera aperture iris'.
The second item on the first page takes you to a page (URL too long to cut and paste) that has a discussion on irises. There are four or five diagrams that you might be able to manipulate in Photoshop to create what you want to do.

You could try beveled edges and key frame scale, but that would only be 4 edges. I did something like this awhile back and forgot how I did it. Think I used a black or green matte.

Thanks for the feed back all... I will look into these and see what I can come up with. I'm thinking of something I can put on track one that will close and open to reveal the snap shot. The Christmas visitations from the kids and grand kids start today and they will stay through New Years, in staggering schedules. Should be fun!!!
