Happy Pi Day

Postby sidd finch » Wed Mar 14, 2018 1:32 pm

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π. Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.

In addition to being irrational, Pi is also transcendental. Meditate on that.

I'll be sure to add this as a recurring event in my Outlook calendar, since I don't see a Pi day already listed.

And what is the status of Pi? How may decimal places has it been carried out to so far?

The record for finding consecutive numbers, from 3.14 onward to the final digit, is held by Fabrice Bellard, who announced in January that he had calculated pi to 2.7 trillion digits.

Probably more than RJ will want to put in his Outlook calendar.

Just by sheer coincidence the first 100 decimal places also happens to be my favorite number... that is weird...

Virtual pie next time I bake. I had an experiment a few months ago with an upside down banana cake. Merged 3 recipes. Very good, but a super small slice was enough at one time.

As Robert Palmer sang....simply irresistible, I'm in. :)

For those looking for something more traditional, Raspberry Pi just released their model B+
