Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate

Postby RJ Johnston » Tue Feb 27, 2018 6:29 pm

I don't really need another version of PaintShop, but when I opened the X7 version and started playing around, there was a pop-up telling me I could get Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate for US $24.99. It includes several other applications and free plugins.

So, if you want the 2018 version of PaintShop Pro, and you have an older version of it, try working in the older version and wait for the pop-up.

You have a choice of New or Upgrade. The upgrade is over $40.00 while New is $24.99.

I've been getting other offers from Corel in emails, but the prices are higher in those offers.

Before I switched to Photoshop I used Paintshop Pro a lot, really enjoyed it too. Had a lot of fun with that program :)

Having only used Photoshop how would you say it compares?

I haven't used it for years, hopefully RJ will be able to provide a current version comparison. When I was using it there were a lot of very nice tools, it may have been even better than Photoshop at that time. There was no Photoshop Elements so Paintshop was definitely priced for the consumer market and made it very attractive. Had good tools for retouching, removing backgrounds, all the standard stuff.

With the UItimate version (32-bit and 64-bit), you get Aftershot 3 (not the pro version), Particle Shop with some sample brushes (works in Adobe Photoshop), Corel Painter Essentials 5, Corel Creative Collection, and Perfectly Clear SE 3. There's also the KPT plugin collection that works only with the 32-bit version.

I won't be able to compare as I uninstalled the older Paintshop version. But here is the web page where they are trying to compare Paintshop to Photoshop.

Compare

I haven't used Paintshop very much. I was trying Perfectly Clear SE 3, which automatically corrects your image, such as Red Eye. You don't have to specify where the eyes are located. The app automatically finds them. I'm having a difficult time with the PerfectlyClear plug-in. The plug-in gets lost somehow, and I have to keep reinstalling it.

Here is a link to the complete version of Athentech's Perfectly Clear 3.5. Free to try for 21-days. No restrictions. It comes with a standalone version and a plug-in for Photoshop. A special edition with fewer features is included with PaintShop Pro Ultimate.

It works very well with high resolution images when dealing with faces (eyes, mouth, teeth, makeup, etc.).
