Inkjet refilling -warning

Postby tjodork » Tue Dec 26, 2017 12:55 pm

I've been refilling Canon printer cartridges for a long time... its an amazing deal...
I've been refilling by leaving the cartridge in the printer, removing rubbery plug and filling with a syringe with a curved tube.
What I discovered today, is that when I remove the rubbery cap, the ink level in the cartridge goes DOWN !!! YIKES.
Sure enough, I pulled the cartridge and there was leaked out ink below the cartridge : (

So, I've changed my process to cover the holes (see arrows) at the top with duct tape BEFORE removing cap. Now I can continue to fill while still in the printer very quickly.

I always remove my HP cartridges before refilling.
I've never had a Canon printer. Are those refillable cartridges OEM?

I have been refilling my Canon cartridges for years but I always remove them. I have a 6 cartridge printer and have 3 refillable cartridges for each and always have backups filled and ready. I have always purchased mine through PrintPayLess.com

Hmm... i didn't know that HP printers were refillable...my recollection was that they had b/w and a color cartridge each with a lot of electronics.
The Canon and Epson typically have a simple ink cartridge (although there is some small pcb on it).
I buy the empty cartridges and ink on ebay.
Wow Chuck, thats impressive to have additional sets pre-filled.... I'm too cheap to but the extra cartridge sets : )
I used to do Continuous ink but refilling is just simpler.
