Firewire to USB adapter

Postby mark hansen » Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:10 pm

I had to break out my old DV tape cameras today to film an event and now I need to capture it. I got a new PC (desktop) and it doesn't have a fire wire card. Can I get a fire wire to USB adapter to just use a USB port, or do I need to get another fire wire card and install it?

If you Google for it you should find something that fits the bill.
AMD Ryzen 3900x 12C/24T, ASUS x570 mobo, Arctic Liquid Freezer ll 280, Win11 64 bit, 64GB RAM, Radeon RX 570 graphics, Samsung 500GB NVMe 980 PRO (C:), Samsung 970 Evo SSD (D:), Dell U2717D Monitor, Synology DS412+ 8TB NAS, Adobe CS6.

A Firewire-to-USB converter will not work for capturing miniDV though.

Dropping in a FireWire card would be the best solution.

No, it is not possible to connect a FireWire interface to your computer's USB port via a FireWire to USB adapter since this connection is not sufficient to run a FireWire audio interface.
