FWIW these devices are mostly netbooks using Atom processors -- antiquated hardware that can barely run any operating system. Just for fun, I wiped a netbook someone gave me (because he was so unhappy with it) and loaded it up with Linux. It still barely performs.

In short, I don't know that anyone is actually even using these crappy little processors anyway.

But I could be completely wrong.

Perhaps, but it sets a precedent which may include some old, but still adequate, hardware.

Believe it or not, we have a couple of netbooks with the Atom processor at work. I'm running Windows XP on one of them and Windows 7 on the other. We generally use them only for spreadsheets and databases.

Good points, Peru.

Meantime, in a possibly related story, Apple will not support pre-2009 Macs with its newest operating system, Sierra.
