Talk about anything here.

Thanks for reading my mind, as I'm certain that I will need those.

Questions:

1) Between Easus and Macrium. do you have a preference?

2) Do both programs allow for the creation of a bootable CD/DVD for performing the restore?

3) With regard to the note "Note re the drive: "Package includes a hard drive only - no screws, cables, manuals included. Please purchase mounting hardware and cables separately if necessary." Must I make any separate purchases? With my desktop, there are three power supply cable plus 3 SATA cables, so cloning from one drive to another is not a problem. For her laptop, I'm not clear how I will connect the internal HDD to the one in the dock.

I remember you had that with Acronis. If you don't need that or the other features of the paid versions, free looks adequate.

Very helpful comparison, Bob.

Thank you.

Excellent suggestion, Chuck.

That is what I do with my ATT data plan: start with the lowest offering and change to the next highest mid-cycle only if I determine that I cannot make it to the next billing period with my first choice.

The docking station will connect to the laptop and function just like an external drive. If the laptop has a USB 3 port you're in business. You won't need to buy mounting screws or hardware.

To add to what Bob said:
The drive just sides in- no cables used. That's why they call it a "dock."

SOS! I need to create a bootable Win10 DVD,,,

Postby George Tyndall » Sat Apr 08, 2017 6:49 pm

Hi Bob, Chuck and Peru,

Edit: The good news is that I am able to create a WinPE disk with EaseUS; however, when attempting to boot with the clone, I am informed that I need a Windows Installation/Repair disk. Problem is, unlike all our previous machines, the Acer does not offer even a "one-time" chance to burn a set.

Question: What is the procedure you-all follow when attempting to boot with the clone?

Thank you.

I haven't used it on Windows 10, but here is what I did on Windows 7:

1) Install clone
2) Insert Repair Disc in drive
3) Turn on computer and choose "Startup Repair" when given the option
4) Let it repair
5) Remove disc and it should boot normally

On Windows 7, if you click the Start Button and type "Create a System Repair Disc" you get an option to click on that and create a disc.

Here are some links for Windows 10:

Thanks for taking the time to compose that, Peru. One problem is that the files that are needed to burn the discs are not on this machine. One of the links does explain how to download from Microsoft the software that is designed to create a set; however, the download would require me to turn off my metered WiFi connection, which in turn would mean that I lose control over the Windows updates that MS will install on my wife's machine.

Result: I've chatted with ACER, and they have agreed to send a set of system repair and installation discs for her specific machine and for no charge.

Thanks again for your detailed reply.

Can they be copied, one by one, to a Flash drive?

Create an ISO and save it to the flash drive. You can then take the ISO file and burn a disc when you need one.

Hi Bob, Chuck and Peru,

I must say that I am VERY impressed with the capabilities of just the free version of EaseUS Todo.

I've already created a WinPE disc with it that will boot my system and allow me to perform a clone.

Once I've received the WIN10 Repair and Installation discs from ACER, I'm expecting to be able to boot from the two clones without issue.

I'll report back after doing so.

Thanks again.
