In the early days, we spent a lot of time helping people transition from VHS to miniDV.

What is miniDV? Is it compatible with my VHS 'C' camera? :-D

I remember what a huge deal it was for me to transition from analog to digital. I could barely justify the expense.

But, in the years since, I've somehow found myself with two Digital8 camcorders, two miniDVs and two AVCHDs, the combined cost of which is only a few hundred dollars more than cost of my first Sony 8mm camcorder. (I tend to buy used and refurbs, by the way.) I also have a bottom of the line smartphone, a cheap sport cam and a $50 drone -- all of which shoot crystal clear HD like I couldn't have even imagined in 2007!

It's scary how affordable this technology has become. And it's funny how, when miniDV and Digital8 came out in 2003-2004, it was advertised as being "near broadcast quality"!

Hello friends! I joined: Fri Feb 23, 2007 2:55 pm. Although I'm no longer active I do keep up with y'all. I lurk around quite a bit.

Thanks to this patient group of people, sharing their knowledge and encouraging advice, I learned to make my first video 10 years ago.

I'm still taking pictures and doing a little video, but nothing exciting. The big things going on in my life now are my new great granddaughter and taking care of my 90-year-old mother. I'll keep lurking img0432

Seeing this old familiar names reminds of me of thread in which we shared old photos of ourselves.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1911

Any interest in sharing before and after photos of ourselves in 2007 and 2017?

I'll start. Though I'll have to admit, the years have not been kind to me.

...just to give you some perspective on average over 10 years, Chuck has posted 4.6 comments per day and Steve has posted 3.3 comments per day. Who says they have nothing to say. LOL....

It seems that I must have the most to say, happy that so many of the people with a lot to say are still around :)

What a fun thread! You look like a shoe in for "Welcome Back Kotter", Steve! You coulda' been a movie star!!!

Can't believe I've been here for 6 years. It's been wonderful. Best forum ever. You guys are great! I especially love the Water Cooler thread. All kinds of information there. And I'll always love Bob. I think I've learned more from what he's forgotten than I ever knew. hmmm... does that even make sense?

Anyhew, Congrats on 10 YEARS!!! :yh:
