Get out of all that cold ice and snow and try thawing out in Orlando where it is now in the mid to high 70's ! What's not to like about that? Easy access, lots of things to do, lots of great places to eat and lots of places to visit, photograph & video, and get a nice tan or even try some deep sea fishing. ;-)

Direct, non-stop flights in the summer months from New York, JFK to Palermo. :-D
But you will have to stay for a week to wait for the return flight. :exc:

Um, actually Steve, my favorite bears are in Katmai National Park in Alaska, though I'd love to see Yosemite...unfortunately, neither of these amazing national parks could possibly be the site this year.

Chuck, I'm still looking forward to a meetup there...how about another time, like - no, wait a minute...that might too much of a hint! ;)

I suspect that would be somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. ;)

Nah! Sicily. :-D Half way between the USA and Australia for Little Nac and Bubby Grub.

Sorry John. Not this time - maybe they can host in a few years, though...

Reykjavik's lovely - don't know what you've got against it. ;)

Surely if we need to be in the middle of everybody there's only one logical solution...

Chris - I LOVE the idea...but we'll have to wait a few more years for Iceland - though at the center of the earth we wouldn't know if we were in the right place or not! :-8

Wherever it is, I hope you'll make dinner Steve!! Lunch might be more in order this time, though candles could be a nice touch.

Gotta' say Orlando sounds great, but not this time...The good news is there won't be ice and snow by the time this meetup takes place.

OK folks...I've dropped a few hints along the way...some of your answers were wrong, though you were close. BIG HINT right there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh isn't this fun?!?!

OK folks...3 really BIG hints follow...

1) The location is in the POT **Note: this is NOT a reference to Colorado...LOL

2) Some of you may also be in the POT but nowhere near the meetup location

3) Don't worry...you won't be in the dark very long. (Oh my goodness! I've really given it away with this hint!!!!!)

Don't give up on this - it will be awesome!!!

I know the date...but not your exact location, Sherrin.

Hi Paz!!! How've ya' been?

You are so clever - I'm sure you figured it out!!! Feel free to post the date...I haven't been too obvious on the location...I've mostly just given event clues.

I don't know about clever. I just happened to already have the date circled on my calendar!

Anyhooo, since this topic has sort of fallen off the map, maybe it's time to give it up. Or at least give a much larger hint:

Anyone live near the gray line with the blue stripe? Some good locations there... If things work out, I'll be a little south of Columbia, South Carolina!

You got it right Paz!!

The thought I had was a meetup just south of St. Louis - Momoffduty and Kent Frost (I think) are close to there and Steve would be somewhat close. Later I thought if others couldn't be in that exact spot, they could participate if they were in the "POT" - the path of totality - like you will be. People who experienced the event could contribute photos or videos and maybe some audio reactions.

But Paz, you're also right that this topic fell off the map...Guess noone was all that interested. Oh well. Either way, I will be in or near the Grand Tetons on that date - the "IT" spot for the one this year.

For the first time in nearly 100 years, much of the continental United States will experience a total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. "

Oh, WOW. Double Feature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

South Carolina is probably nearest for me - and my sister lives just across the border of North Carolina. I haven't seen her in 5 or 6 years and I've never met her grandchildren, twins somewhere in the vicinity of 9 - 11 years old. But my niece and her husband and the twins may be away on vacation at the time so the idea loses a little of its charm.

OTOH, The GRAND TETONS are not all that far from my son and MY grandchildren. hmmmmm..... drive... cheap..... fly..... expensive.... hmmmm
