Backing up photos, Videos to Cloud

Postby kenskopp » Wed Nov 09, 2016 9:58 am

Hello,

I would like advice on cloud storage. I have a 1TB "C" drive with programs on it, a 1TB "E" internal drive with all my photos and videos. What is recommended for a cloud backup program. I have created DVD Movies with ImgBurn. I back up "c" to external drive and "E" to external drive with Seagate Backup.

For business I use Carbonite, very happy with their service and product. They have been around a long time and are very good at cloud backup and storage, highly recommended.

I also use Carbonite. Unlimited storage for $60 a year for one computer. Multi-year discounts. Pretty much set it and forget it.

I don't use Carbonite since I keep my backup files from home at my business and vice versa, but my daughter uses Carbonite and it has been very handy for her as she can access her school work on her laptop from her smart phone.

Hello all,

I contacted Carbonite. Based on my conversation, I would need to get their $149.99 Prime Plan. This is only plan that would back up videos and Imgburn video.ts files. Their basic plan for $60 would be very time consuming to manually back up videos files. Any other suggestions?

I don't know of a better deal or a better service, sorry.

as far as upload time. Do you work at a place that has industrial speed internet? Maybe coming in to work on a Saturday to upload might help reduce the upload time. 1TB is just plain big.

$150 per year seems pretty steep to me as an ongoing payment.

Before committing I would think about whether a locally attached NAS as a backup device and personal cloud storage might work as an option for you.

Your existing backup drives could be used in the NAS and there is some really slick backup software available (I use Macrium Reflect).

I haven't looked at the prices or procedures in quite a while, but I thought Carbonite also offered an option where you can load everything on HDD(s), and ship the data to them via UPS/FedEx, where they can load it all into your storage. From then on you'd be simply adding to that data via your internet connection as per usual.
