Meantime, Apple's next operating system is intentionally set up to exclude pre-2009 computers, forcing you to buy a new computer if you want the latest OS.

So Microsoft's strategy seems to be to assimilate the world's computers like some Borg attack -- while Apple's strategy is more about driving hardware sales through planned obsolesce, the strategy that gave us the Ford Pinto and the Plymouth Duster.
