WMV plugin for Firefox/Mac

Postby Gerry » Mon Mar 05, 2007 5:56 pm

Does anyone know where I can find a WMV plugin for Firefox running on a Mac with OS-X?

Apparently if I need to do some "research" while at work, I can't view any WMV videos here because when I click on "Install missing plugin" it just tells me it can't find any.

There's gotta be. It doesn't do much of anything on the Mac except install the WMV application, not the plug-in. And I can't download the WMV files to the hard drive for viewing later.

This advances the ball one notch: now, when I double-click one of the WMV files in the Gallery, instead of the "puzzle piece graphic" and verbiage saying "Missing plug-in" now I get a screen-looking thing, but never anything IN the screen to play.

I'm sure you've already seen this, but I thought I'd take a shot. It's from the Mozilla help site:

Flip4Mac WMV Plugin
Version: 2.1 or later
Firefox 2.0: Manual
Camino 1.0: Manual
SeaMonkey 1.1: Manual
Since the Windows Media Player plugin has been deprecated, the Flip4Mac WMV plugin is now the officially supported plugin of choice for viewing WMV content on the web.

Windows Media Player
Version: 9.0
Firefox 2.0: Unsupported
Camino 1.0: Unsupported
SeaMonkey 1.1: Unsupported
This plugin is automatically installed in the Internet Plug-ins folder in the Library Folder using the installer from Microsoft's website. However, it has known (and in some cases severe) problems when used with Mozilla based browsers. The Flip4Mac WMV Plugin should be used instead.

Important! mozilla.org has made the decision that Windows Media Player will no longer be supported on Mac OS X. This is due to major issues in stability and compatibility. It is also due to Microsoft endorsing the Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.

Steve -- Thanks. I actually hadn't seen that.

Regardless, I'll have to screw around with this Flip4Mac thing, since it's not working in either Firefox nor Safari on the Mac.

Geez, why can't we all just get along?

Maybe not stupid Macs so much as underhanded evil.

Hahahahaha. Imagine!

But it will make you sterile. At least that's what the Mac tech here at work told me, so it's got to be true.

But what can you expect from the people who've given us those "I'm a Mac"/"And I'm a PC" ads.
