First Televisions by Home Tinkerers

Postby Dave McElderry » Thu Aug 27, 2015 1:40 pm

I've been slowly working my way through an incredible box of memories which my mom and dad collected, some from well before their marriage. I'm not sure what the motivation was for them to keep this particular newspaper clipping, or where it came from. There's no personal/family value to it. But it is interesting, and I thought I'd share.

Cool Post. Even 78 years ago innovation out paced the ability to get product to market. Cool article.

Pretty cool article, Dave!

Computers were the same way, weren't they? At first only hobbyists tinkered with them.

What are the hobbyists tinkering with now? Or has all the best stuff already been invented?

I think it is now more on the programing end as in creating apps or programing with the Raspberry Pi

"developments are coming so fast the sets soon would be out of date" "when change comes" "insert new part"

Too bad this can't be used today with cameras.

Thanks Dave for sharing! I really enjoyed this.

Funny you should mention this, Peru. I've been doing a little genetic tinkering myself and have recently produced a One-eyed, one-horned
Flyin' Purple People Eater. :-D

You name it. It's a great time to make things. There are some wonderful technologies available. 3D printing, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and all the open source infrastructure supporting them. And, that's just scratching the surface.

In my garage I'm trying to improve on this.

Keep getting the power tripping out though, when I try to get it to rise off the workbench. :-D

That's a common error, John. You need to use DC power with a positive ground (earth).
