Talk about anything here.

I have been away from video for a long time. I have an immediate need. I am looking for a tool that will take a video of say 10 minutes and cut it into equal segments of anything between 0 - 10 seconds. Anyone know of a tool so that I do not have to do it manually in Premiere Elements or Premiere Pro?
Thanks, -Vernon

There may be tools out there that cut on scene changes automatically. I did a google search and found at least one tool. Maybe Steve knows of others. I don't think there is any software that can do automatic cuts at different places. The type of video plays a part also as you will have problems cutting at certain places with some video codecs.

Just doing a Google search I found several, but I'm not familiar with any of them. Some are pretty pricey, as they're pretty full-featured, but here's one that's free. It says it will do what you want. I downloaded but did not install. Norton says the file is safe, but the standard caution regarding adware and toolbars during installation applies. http://downloads.tomsguide.com/Video-Ul ... -1640.htmlEDIT: Vernon reports that this is NOT freeware - it's shareware.

Hi Vernon, great to see you back on the forum !!
I used to use something but it was a long time ago, trying to see if I can remember what it was called and if they still make it. What format is the video you want to split up?

I think this is the one that I have tried in the past, not sure if it will handle your format or not. http://www.avs4you.com/video-converter- ... oCv9fw_wcB

Chuck, Good to be back. I have been intermittently checking in, but I have not made a video in so long, it seems like it is all new again.
Thanks, -Vernon

Dave and Chuck, Thanks for the response. Just in case someone references this thread in the future, neither of the two choices that were presented are free. I opted to go with the A-One Splitter since it was the cheaper of the two ($25USD) and that was all of the functionality that I was looking for. The interface seems easy enough and it cut my mpg file into 10 second snippets with no apparent loss of quality. Now back to editing.
Thanks again Dave and Chuck.

Sorry about that Vernon. Upon closer examination I see that it does say Shareware. I didn't see any pricing and thought that it was freeware. Glad you found something that worked.

If I had known that you were splitting MPG files there may have been something free. MPGStreamclip may have a splitting function, that is a free utility. Anyway, glad to have you back and that you found a solution
