Focusing Rail

Postby _Paz_ » Tue Mar 03, 2015 2:19 pm

Focusing Rail - so many to choose from!

Two axis, four axis, degrees of something or other...

It would be great to have one that I could use for macro still shots and video from my Canon 7D on the heavy side to the GoPro with macro lenses attached on the light side.

Any suggestions?

thanks,

Paz

What is a focusing rail? Are you talking about a follow focus on a 15mm rail system?
Desktop: HPE-580T, i7-950 (3.07GHz), 16GB RAM, Win'7 64-bit Home Premium, PSE12/PRE12, Lightroom 5.
Laptop: MacBook Pro (retina), 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5.
Cameras (in use): Panasonic GH4/Canon HFR400/Canon HV30, GoPro HD Hero2.

I don't think so, Ron. I'm not sure what a follow focus 15mm rail system is.

The type of focusing rail I'm looking for is a plate that attaches to the top of a tripod, the camera attaches to it.

Turn a wheel and the camera will either advance or recede by one screw turn in tiny increments to get the camera the precise distance it needs to be from the subject for macro shots. A four way rail can be adjusted to left or right, forwards or backwards.

B&H has this lovely Novoflex model: Cheap too!

Ebay has many models priced about $30. Why such a huge price difference? I'm not paying the $$$ for the Novoflex, or a Kirk. But reviews for cheapies sound like they are worthless. Maybe worse than worthless for the camera droppers.
