Passion Coffee video shot on GH4

Postby Ron Hunter » Fri Oct 31, 2014 10:57 am

I stumbled across this video about making coffee. Not growing it, not roasting it, just grinding it and pouring water through it to make a cup. It is a simple video but I think a very good one. No narration or subtitles are used, but you can still follow the story.

I think the camera work is very good and so is the editing.

I would have never thought to make a video about this subject, but I find it interesting that this guy did and that he did such a good job on it.

It definitely shows how good color grading adds to the way a video looks, feels and tastes.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go get a cup of coffee...

With all the macro work it ought to put ideas in Sidd's head. :) It was a very nice piece. I do love me a good cup of coffee. :coffee2:

That was really creative and I agree that the color grading made a huge difference. It does get the creative juices moving for a new Macro adventure.

Not bad, but the DOF was incredibly thin throughout the video. I could see this video being way more pleasing to the eyes if we could see more focal detail in many of those shots.

Creative use of macro shots and the sepia tone color added to the video. I'm with Kent on the too shallow DOF. A little hard on the eyes with the foreground blur.

Nice poetry of dynamic details, it makes the whole work quite abstract.
Considering that is a video about making coffee (following a specific recipe), it is original enough.

For starters what is DOF??? Please pardon my ignorance. :) I liked the piece, and it's akin to something Francesco might do :)

I posted, some months ago, a short tutorial by me about how to set depth of field in Canon 600d in video:

as well in photographs:

including a link to a good contribute by Gary Nugent and describing two useful tools on the Net, to calculate hyperfocal distance too.

I just open the jar, take a teaspoonful and add hot water. I don't understand what those odd shaped things are at the start of the video. Seems way too complicated for me and Mr Nescafe (or Maxwell House) :-D (joke!!)

John I heat my milk first then add the teaspoon for the ohh so delicious latte. On Saturdays I make it a heaping teaspoon...
