TUT - How Codecs Work

Postby Ron Hunter » Thu Sep 04, 2014 12:02 pm

Today I watched an excellent tutorial called "How Codecs Work" by David Kong. The tut is 43 min long but it is worth it to watch all of it. He explains things like:
- what is a codec.
- difference between codec and container.
- difference between spatial compression and temporal compression.
- what is chroma subsampling and why you care.
- lossy vs lossless compression
- considerations for choosing a codec at 4 stages of video work (capture, editing, delivery, archive).

His explanations are super easy to understand and there is no math involved. Highly recommended! :TU:

This is terrific! But, if you want just the basics on 4 minutes or less, check out the video on this thread.
