Do I hear any critiques coming???

Postby BuddyB » Sat Jun 28, 2014 11:17 am

I've redone the the promo that I posted a while back and I'm looking for input as before. The last post garnered great information. No matter how the improvement it can always be better. So..here goes.

Looks good Buddy. Although my video editing/viewing preference is wide screen mode so that you don't have to pad the sides with color. You did include a couple of wide screen clips at the end of the video and you sure can see the viewing improvement in those. I suspect the other clips were DV and and the wide screen (16 by 9) were HD clips maybe?

Yer right, I had to mix and mingle the original formats. All of the 720s came from my DV910 or were furnished by the customer. At the end I acquired a Canon that will shoot 1280X720. That is what I will be doing until I can move on up to 1920X1080. Thanks TreeTops.

Buddy sounds smooth and looks good. My only critique (and it is more a matter of style than anything else) is for your clips that are in the 4:3 format. I would call out that you accept 4:3 format and make it a plus. and I would leave the background black. Also I think the choice of font is a bit too bold and you might consider something a little less busy.

For the record I would equate my comments to a matter of taste (e.g. DO you like apple pie or cherry pie) not that anything is wrong. :)

Good points Sidd, thanks one more time for the input. Sometimes I have a tendency to over-do some things and it needs to be brought to my attention. I presume the busy type you're speaking of is during the school reunion part.

I agree with Sidd on that.

I would also try to scale up and crop the 4:3 to 16:9 and see how it looks.

Peru, pardon my ignorance..I'm not exactly sure what to do, or how. Resizing the clips? I apologize, based on the numbers it would appear to me to be a better route. I just don't have the experience in that realm. :( Maybe there's a tute or something I can review on that approach.

I don't know how it's done in Movie Studio, but in Premiere Elements you would go the the motion properties and increase the scale and adjust the position.

Sounds like a plan I will investigate that. There has to be something similar in MS. Thanks for that input.

I think it looks pretty good, Buddy! Nice collection of stuff and very nice pacing.

Do you have a web site? It's always nice to include a link to your web site, where potential clients can see lots more examples of your work, rather than just a phone number.

But that's not a dealbreaker. Just a thought. As a promo, I think you've got a pretty good little video!

Very kind Steve, thanks for the comments. I have received some good input and will probably make a few changes along the way. I'm sure glad you found me at Sony that day. :)

Buddy I forgot to include the positives. The video is well crafted and...The voice over is what sells the video. Good pacing and it sounds interesting.

Tight edit, great narration, love the animations. I liked the dark blue font, but not sure about the font or maybe its color during the HS edit portion. The light orange background was fine for the logo and the ending graphics, it compliments your logo. For the 4:3 footage maybe try a dark blue or black matte instead of the orange? Sometimes the lightness draws your eyes to it and away from the dark which is the footage.

Again, liked the edit, etc. The suggestions are personal taste only. I will swap out fonts many times when I am working on a project second guessing myself so take my font suggestion with a shot of tequila. :)
