Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?My jaundiced view is that this will be held back by the current absence of content.

Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?I first heard that High Def TV was possible in the mid 1980s. I really wanted one! It was a long time coming.
We have one HDTV that already needs repair. I'm not sure if it is reasonable to repair it or if we're supposed to throw things away these days. I'm not jumping up and down to buy an Ultra High Def TV to replace it for exactly the reason you mentioned. Lack of content. But since even a little Hero can shoot in 4K I'm guessing the whole industry of faster computer, larger hard drives, etc., will be in gear to create demand. Just not sure the consumers will be ready to re-invest this soon. It will be interesting to see what happens! Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?
I was unsure if widescreen would catch on.
Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?Well there was a lot of hype about 3D TV also. That didn't go anywhere. Maybe a few people bought them but lack of content was a problem for 3D also.

Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?It was a joke, sort of. Maybe not as far fetched as it might sound though. I was looking to the day when technology will allow sending audio/video directly to the brain instead of going through an external device such as TV. At the rate things are changing it may not be as far in the future as it sounds. Not that I would embrace such tech, because I doubt that I would.

Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?Reminds me of some work that's now a few years old where researchers were able to build a model of brain activity and from that read images "out" of the brain that corresponded to the images that people were seeing. The opposite of plugging in but pretty incredible none the less. Reconstructions from 1:30 onwards.

Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?Wow. Pretty incredible. Some of that stuff gives me the willies though. I'm very much a tech guy, until they start interfacing human beings with machines. Then I start getting cold feet.

Re: Is It Time for Ultra High Definition TV?Interesting tech Chris. Reminds me of the move Inception. Another movie, can't think of the name, where people would put on virtual reality headsets.
