Considering Adobe Premier..need suggestions

Postby BuddyB » Wed Nov 27, 2013 11:03 am

I'm considering buying Adobe Premier 5.5. I can get it for a fair price. Any thoughts from anyone on this? Thanks. I now have Sony Vegas 10.

I have CS5 and I love it. 5.5 had some nice upgrades including warp stabilizer but I would go for it if you have the chance. I am partial to Premiere :)

Make sure it's Premiere Pro CS5.5, not the old Adobe Premiere 5. There is a huge difference.
Also, make sure that you will be able to activate it.

CS5.5 does not have the Warp Stabilizer in Premiere Pro. It may be in After Effects CS5.5

I use Premiere Pro CS5.5 and am glad that I bought it when I did. There were a lot of bugs with CS6, the last version not Creative Cloud, although they finally did fix some of them with an update not too long ago.
If it's legitimate, go for it!

Ooooh yeah, thanks for the input for that, will have to look a little closer. I would dearly love 5.5 pro, if it's the right thing.

I bought Premiere Pro 6 when Adobe announced CC or nothing, Buddy. I'm glad I did because it has features that will allow me to make broadcast quality videos, which is where I've set my goal. On the other hand, as always, the more capable the software, the harder the learning curve. I make myself use PrePro so I'll learn it, but I find myself longing for the ease of Premiere Elements.

I thouught the learning curve of Sony Vegas 10 was pretty much, can only imagine Adobe Premier. However, after the initial fright, having had the app for 2 years and never doing anything with it, my old radio experience began to kick in. I too aspire to do some pro work. I wish you well in your endeavors..you will get there.

Buddy,

Your post reminded me of some requirements for Broadcast TV that I've been planning on learning how to do. I've begun a thread about those requirements and posted it in the Premiere Pro section of the Muvipix forum.

As Peru said, be sure you're looking at CS5.5. You'll get there too!

Peru, based on what you've said what's the difference between Adobe Premier Pro 5.5 and Adobe CS5.5 Production Premium. I jes' luv' the way these guys throw names around. I didn't take the first 5.5 Pro because it was used and the guy couldn't guarantee I could register it. The latter is about 100.00 more than the first and it is new. Thanks for any input.

CS5.5 Production Premium also includes Photoshop, Encore (for DVD authoring), After Effects and other stuff. as well as Premiere Pro.

Premiere Pro CS5.5 will be just that and nothing else(?), so the extra $100 may well be worth it, depending on your needs.

That is the information I surely need. Thank you so much for the input. :) However, I waited too long to respond, or it was bate and switch. No hurry, so I just keep searching, or come up with more bucks.

Buddy,

What Adobe products do you currently own?

If, by chance, you have pretty much used other brands of software, you may not be aware of how Adobe's products have been packaged. Long ago each program was sold individually. Then Adobe created packages that contained assorted software packages. These packages were called CS for "Creative Suite."

Customers who did not need/want the packages were allowed to individually upgrade individual products, which is what I did. I have Photoshop CS6, After Effects CS6 and Adobe Premiere CS6, but each is an individual product, not part of a package. I also have Encore, which I think I was allowed to download because I had a legal version of one of the other products. Encore is a DVD authoring software.

Customers who wanted one of the package deals, were only allowed afterwards to upgrade an entire package whether they used/needed all the software products in the particular package they bought into or not.

Are you looking for Adobe Premiere CS as a stand alone product or do you want it in a collection with other Adobe products, such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Illustrator, (there are many more) etc?

If you want a package, it would make sense to investigate which products you'd like to have in your combo. If you only want the single program, the last I heard, CS6, the last product prior to CC, or rent to use Creative Cloud, is still available for sale through Adobe, and possibly through Amazon.

Buddy, Based on your comments, if $100 does not break the bank then the suite is most definitely worth it. The different programs interface well with each other. Especially Photoshop and After Effects. I will say After Effects is a beast unto itself but it is powerful. Since you have mastered Vegas I would expect that the learning curve would not be so steep. I always think of these things like driving a car. The car you learn on is always the hardest. Then it is a matter of learning the ins and outs of the new program.
