Yeah, I remember there were more than a few people who got the words wrong to that line. :)

I watched half of it last night but recorded it all. Will probably watch the rest tonight. I don't know that I've ever heard some of those stories about his early years. Really got a kick out of hearing Paul McCartney tell of how he was in awe watching Jimi, the way any guy off the street might have been. You just don't think of Paul being in awe of another musician.

Thanks Dave for posting the heads up for this. We watched last night and very insightful. I liked hearing the interviews of family friends. There were a lot of assumptions of him and the video I think covered his musical life in a full way. I remember listening with friends his Smashing of Amps.

If you listen to the top 5 songs of 1967 and compare them to Purple Haze which also came out in 1967, you can see why he was so different than the crowd with the exception of the Doors Light my fire.

1. To Sir With Love - Lulu
2. Light My Fire - The Doors
3. Windy - The Association
4. Ode To Billie Joe - Bobbie Gentry
5. The Letter - The Box Tops

Sidd, your list brought back memories. I wasn't a teen yet, but had 2 older siblings 8ys & 10ys older and was exposed to a variety of music. My sister was into Joan Baez & Simon/Garfunkel. My brother the Doors, Cream, Hendrix, Animals, Turtles. He left his sterio equipment including a synthesizer with all his tapes reel to reel & LPs in my care when he shipped out with the Navy. I was only 10 or a little more. My friends had much older siblings too and think our tastes reflected theirs.

An interesting comparison, and his music wasn't even anything like the Doors, although I do get your point. I wasn't listening to any of those in that list except the Doors.

It was interesting to see in the movie of Jimi playing a 12 string acoustic guitar near the very end.
That is the first time I ever saw him playing an acoustic.
I am glad I DVRed it.
I'll probably watch it 2 or 3 more times.
Thanks
Richard

FINALLY got back to watching the rest of this last evening. I found the story of Electric Lady Studio to be fascinating. I was surprised that Jimi wasn't rolling in dough by that point. The fact that he was financing the next bit of work on the studio with every gig was amazing. And after all these years I still got a little emotional when they talked about his death. Very nice ending with the quote.
