Illusion

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if some one could help me out with this effect. What we want to do is to create an illusion, meaning say you
video a guy holding a sheet up in front of him moving it up and down but he is standing in the one spot and then the guy disappears and the sheet drops to the
ground and all you see is the sheet on the ground no guy. Then adding to it by having a 2nd person running in and disappearing at the same time as the original guy,
just leaving the sheet laying on the ground.

I have a couple of thoughts, but to be truthful would really love some advice on what would be the best way to approach it.

We would really like to do this particular editing in PE7. We do have 10, plus Photoshop 10 and CS6 Photoshop, but for this particular project the editing is in PE7

Thanks in advance for any suggestions which would be greatly appreciated.

Initial thought. Might need some refinement as you work through it (blurs etc.):-

Have the camera on a rigid tripod!

Record the video of the guy holding the sheet/guy running in as you would normally, then drop the sheet being careful that the guys do not move it once it lands on the floor - this is video 1.

Leave the camera running and get the guys to walk away so now you are recording the sheet on the ground and the background - this is video 2.

Place the videos on separate timelines, one above the other, adjust the timing as necessary. Use a vertical wipe following the top edge of the falling sheet to effect the change from guys present to guys absent

Adding to John's suggestion. After you pull the sheet over the guy using 2 people off camera left & right holding the top of the sheet, have the guy move exit from the back of the sheet. Then have the 2 people drop the sheet.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the thoughts will be trying it out today. I did not think of the vertical wipe John thanks for that.
This will be quite a challenge for us as we are only working with two people and a tripod, don't have any helpers.
Will be interesting to see what we come up with.
Thanks again for the thoughts
