Are you outputting a section of your timeline that has video? You might have the timeline selected that has no video in it an it might be rendering the black video you mentioned. Maybe if you post a screen shot of what you are attempting to output that might help.

I am most definitely NOT an expert, but I have a GPH4 black and I am using PPro 6. The MPEG4 files are easy to edit and easy to output. The files are an h.264 codec in an MPEG4 container.

Peavey is good but they do have some issues regarding the signal to noise...

Also if you have spots that are difficult to "loop" you can always cut to some "B-Roll" to play so syncing the voices is not noticeable.
