Whassamatta Steve? Don't you read SciFi?

The crystal lattice datacube - appears in lots of stories. Holds tremendous amounts of data, including personalities.

I am just waiting to download my personality into a datacube to haunt my family for future generations!

Gerry, I have just seen those exact symptoms. I am not sure the reason is pertinent to your problem, as it occurred more recently, but I will describe what happened. I had applied a Windows Update (933566) and it caused these symptoms. I looked it up on the MS website user forums, and an MVP there s...

Glad to help Cinde. Yes, taking the media to another PC for a check is a good idea. TY does indeed make blank media - that is what I use. I don't think it is a copy protection issue, but let's see what happens after your test. As far as your clients copying your DVD themselves, it's gonna happen. Al...

John, the problem with solid state memory is that the capacity will always lag far behind current hard drive technology. Now, that may change, but it will be when BOTH change to a new technology - crystal lattice or something like that. The issue to me is that when "they" (the product desi...

I don't think the Track 1 problem was completely fixed, and I am betting that this is your problem. Just shift all video to Track 2 and above and all should be well. BUT, then you can't use the Sceneline. I don't think this is a problem - I consider it completely useless anyhow. Good luck and let us...

I think Firewire should disappear, along with USB. At least when video is concerned. The correct answer for video storage is HARD DRIVE. There is just no getting around the convenience that direct access to video clips affords. The issue most people have with hard drive video storage is not the stor...

Re: RAID Mirroring

I think RAID mirroring is almost useless, especially as a "backup" technique as opposed to a system recovery technique. The problem with RAID mirroring is that it occurs instantaneously, in hardware. Thus if you, for example, erase a needed file - guess what! it's erased on the mirror too!...

Hi Cinde - sorry for the slow reply - I have just been very busy lately. You covered a lot of territory in your post. Let's explore some basics first. I would recommend that you not output from PE to mpg but rather output the DVD image to a file folder. This creates .VOB files and some other support...

Ken, I used to be a programmer, but hung up my spurs a few years ago. But I don't think so. I think there is some unnecessary step going on having to do with conversion of formats. For example, if you have to sample or resample a lot of stills, that could take a lot of time. Once it is an avi, no fu...

Well, it is nice to know that somebody who knows what they are doing (like Robert) is seeing it also. But that still doesn't explain WHY.

Thanks, Bob

Performance - I Don't Understand

I am working on a fairly big project, broken down in to chapters. I am doing each chapter as a separate .prel and exporting to AVI. The umbrella .prel will take all of the .avi's and create the final version. I am working on an introduction, and have about 15 stills (each in its own track) that pop ...

OK - just a thought. You would be surprised how many people don't know about the root limitation. I see it a lot. I was just going to tell you how to disable caching, but you seem to have done that already. I haven't seen the problem myself, nor with any of my clients. But I do understand that it do...

I am going to go out on a limb here, but are you putting your files in the root folder of the driver, rather than a sub-folder? I.E. are you using only e: rather than e:\something? If so, that may be your problem. You can only have a small amount of files in the root - even though you have tons of s...
