Re: New Tutorial Ideas

Helen, Here are a couple of other layers books you may want to consider. I'm not sure whether you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, but much of what's in them should apply to Photoshop Elements. Especially if you've downloaded some of the add-on layer mask tools. Matt Kloskowski has a new book c...

Re: client wants to shoot 10 bit uncompressed

10-bit uncompressed isn't the same as resolution. It has to do with the capture bit depth and compression. You can use it with various resolutions including 480 as well as 1080. The idea is a higher quality capture and no compression artifacts which should make for smoother post processing involving...

Re: Track Matte (Oh no, not that again)!

I just read your post again and see that you used the "text editor" (Titler). So, that would be a solid shape on transparent background. Don't know how I missed that the first time around. Not sure what's going on. :???: The sequence you described is correct and should work. I can o...

Re: Shutting down when selecting Share - Disk

alaindresse wrote:I will need something to burn CDs & DVDs, so am reluctant to remove Roxio. Any other suggestions short of removing Roxio ?

If Roxio interferes, it's generally Drag-to-Disc that's doing it. Don't start Drag-to-disc and make sure it isn't in your startup folder.

Re: Track Matte (Oh no, not that again)!

Also, how did you create your shape. If you created it with a black background with white shape (not a transparent background with white shape), you'll need to set track matte to use matte luma.

Re: Roll Call

Thought I would join in too. I'm retired, in my 60s, and married with two grown children. I'm not working on a video project at the moment. But, that doesn't mean that I'm doing nothing. Being an ex Information Technology guy, I've been playing with the software development kit for writing plugins. ...

Re: asf file has no fast forward capability

This one says that Virtualdub will convert asf to avi You need the old version of Virtualdub that is mentioned in the link. The current version of Virtualdub does not support ASF or WMV at Microsoft's "request" and that old version is not available at the official Virtualdub site. Don't f...

Re: Won't open or play on another computer

Just a couple of comments. With respect to Roxio, the packet writer that Roxio provides to support drag and drop to CD/DVD (it's called Drag to Disc, I believe) is known to interfere on some systems. I use Roxio but did not install the packet driver and have had no problems burning from Premiere Ele...

Re: What is DirectX 9 - and is it free?

DirectX is a Microsoft product that provides the core multimedia support for Windows. The current version for Windows XP is 9.0c. Vista uses DirectX 10.0 which Microsoft says will not be made available for XP because it uses technology in Vista not present in XP. It's free, but the Microsoft install...

Re: "tweaking" page turning effect

Thanks Cheryl, I forgot to mention that. You are correct, to preserve the alpha channel for the overlay sheet you need to choose millions+ of colors -- the "+" denotes the alpha channel. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure dv-avi will let you select that. You'll need to use an avi form...

Yes, except that Snipe tastes a bit like chicken while Haggis is an acquired taste. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snipe ;) :-

Re: "tweaking" page turning effect

Now I'm confused  Think of it this way. Suppose you want to place a photo in a scrapbook. One way to do it would be to glue the photo directly to a page and then insert the page into the scrapbook binder. That's the combining method. Another way would be to attach the photo to a clear transp...

Re: "tweaking" page turning effect

I got around the problem of 'synching' turning pictures and pages by combining the page and the picture into a single image Photoshop. That's probably the easiest way to do it. The problem is that the Basic 3D effect doesn't allow you to specify the axis of rotation. It always uses the center of th...

Re: PE3 to PE4 video does not play but audio does

Ken, I'm curious as to what type of avi file GIGAPOCKET is producing as it is apparently not a dv-avi. If you download Gspot.exe from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/, you can use that to find out what codec was used in the file. Gspot can tell you more about the file structure and the state of the c...
