There is little to seperate the two... as you say Vegas has the advantage of DVD Architect studio but many folks here use it with Premiere Elements. For me the biggest difference for a novice is that the learning curve for Premiere ...

Re: Low resolution clips ... can't use them, correct?Oops neither did I. In Vegas there are a couple of ways of doing it. Either right click the clip and in Media Properties select Maintain aspect. Otherwise in the Pan/Crop window right click and select maintian source aspect.

Re: Slideshow premiere 10If you right click on the photo in the timeline and select "Scale to Frame" the photo should fill the frame and be uncropped. If you deselect it the photo could be cropped if it's size is larger than the frame size or if it has been scaled in Motion properties.
