Thanks Chris! I also downloaded your .prel file and ran it from my E: drive. Worked without a hitch. I'm not sure why Paul had problems, the RGB color correction worked fine for me. I have version 3 with the patch. Sharing the .prel file is a great way to share techniques. I hope more people do this...

FYI, This depends on the contract the specific manufacturer has with Microsoft. That will end early next year. Microsoft has pulled the plug on all oem manufacturers installing Windows XP on their PCs after January 31, 2008. That will mainly affect consumers and small businesses. Large businesses wi...

Now that you've checked out B&H and read some reviews, it's time to look at them up close and personal. Tripods and heads are something I wouldn't think about buying without having had my hands on the specific model numbers first. Most large camera stores carry Manfrotto/Bogen. Don't know about ...

Light-weight is an advantage if you have to lug it around. If you are going to be carrying a tripod around all day in the field, you'll appreciate the lower weight. But, don't trade weight for rigidity. You need a good solid tripod. The more expensive ones shave off weight by using lighter metals su...

Just an FYI,

Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and has posted a patch. Here's the description: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448

The patch is available through auto update or you can download it directly.

I also got that message after the MS update. I have RealTek drivers and use AVG anti-virus. I updated my RealTek drivers and the message went away. AVG appears to be working perfectly.

I have not uninstalled the MS update and haven't run into any other problems.

Thought this would be a good time to post this link to http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm regarding quality of DVD blank media.

Besides being on the "bad list", 350W is considered sub-marginal these days. Not knowing what your system has in the case, something around the original PSU's 450W rating is probably a safe guide as to what you should shoot for. I'd stay away from the Radio Shack 500W supply -- it might no...

Check your warrenty and don't do anything that will invalidate it. As frustrating as it may be, returning it for diagnosis and repair may be what you'll have to do. I suspect that reseating the cards will not help. Lots of things can cause rebooting -- overheating, bad memory, viruses, etc. But, wit...

Lots of things can cause rebooting. I had a very similar experience with my computer recently and that turned out to be a bad motherboard. I've replaced the board and everything is running great now. Turning off or rebooting like that is not normal. Something is defective. Since the system is new, i...

Re: Possibly OT, but a Track Matte conundrum!

Bill, Use one of the lasso tools instead of the selection brush. I'd recommend the polygonal lasso tool for your "house". After you draw the shape and close the figure, set the feather amount and then press delete as usual. The Selection brush, as you discovered, only selects the area cove...

Cinde, Regarding your #3: That strangely named folder with the msxml4-KB927978-enu.log file within it were created by one of the the Microsoft Security Updates when it installed. You can safely delete both the file and the folder if you want. I'm not sure whats going on with the folder with the squa...

Gerry, May I make a suggestion? Instead of trying to import the same image multiple times into the Organizer database, you can create a tag for each cd, say CD1, CD2, etc. Then, when you import the images, simply add the appropriate tags to the image to identify which cd(s) it is on. Once tagged, yo...

If you have Photoshop CS2, there is a script that is included that will export individual layers to separate files. It may be in CS as well. That script doesn't include PNG in the options but Premiere Elements will import PSD files easily. There is a modification to that script available on ps-scrip...

Yet another Bob

I'm a retired IT professional. I've been active in Photography for over 50 years and had my own darkroom. I packed away the darkroom when I switched to digital photography -- Photoshop is a lot easier to work with and doesn't have all the funny smells. My first video camera was 8mm, followed b...
