That's not what you want. Make sure you're in Timeline rather Sceneline view and put the titles on Video track 2. Otherwise, there's no way to manipulate the slide and title separately.

This will allow you to see your slides on Video track 1 and your titles on Video track 2. My guess is that, when you extended your title's duration, you "rippled" the next slide -- moving it to the right in the process....
